Hurricane Fiona Relief Efforts
Five years after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Puerto Rico is once again fighting to recover from the horrible impact of Hurricane Fiona. We are grateful that Culebra was spared from the worst of the storm. Unfortunately that is not true for many of the small towns on the main island of Puerto Rico.
Our Foundation and our friends and neighbors in Culebra are now working to help the people who are living without electricity and water and have lost so much to the flood waters. Working with the Mayor, we have identified 180 families in the town of Yabucoa who lost the entire contents of their homes due to the flooding. To help accelerate their recovery, the Foundation has decided to take on the challenge of providing every family with a refrigerator, stove and bed. To achieve our goal we will need to raise $1,600 per family, a total of $300,000. Thanks to many of you we have already raised the funds to cover over 30 families. The remaining 150 families still need your support.
The Foundation for a Better Puerto Rico is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2014. Recognizing that Puerto Rico has been facing enormous challenges on multiple fronts, we committed ourselves to do all we can to assist those who are working on solutions.
We hope that Culebra’s experience in becoming a sustainable community with the highest quality of life will become a model that others will want to replicate in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
