The Foundation supports initiatives that build the economic strength of the community, whether through large programs that impact the entire community or small programs that contribute to business development and entrepreneurship.
Flamenco Beach Restoration Project
It was with great pleasure and satisfaction that on February 17, 2023, we handed over the keys to the new facilities of Playa Flamenco to Mayor Edilberto Romero and his team. The new facilities took 5 years to complete, including the time required to obtain the permits from the central government to construct and to open at a cost of $3.7 million dollars, all of which is now donated to the Municipality of Culebra. These new facilities, on the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean and one of the most beautiful in the world, will have a significant impact on the future of the economy and the enjoyment of the Culebrenses and Puerto Ricans. At the moment, in the entire Caribbean these are the most modern facilities including one of the few beaches that offer the opportunity to camp under the sky next to the sea!
The Fishermen’s Association of Culebra has been formed by Culebra’s fishermen to boost the viability and resilience of small-scale fisheries and enhance the communities well-being and economic livelihood. The organization is focused on sustainable maritime development through community education and stewardship of fish stocks and marine ecosystems.
They are building a site in Culebra that can support the education of the community and the sale of their catch. The Foundation is providing support, including funds for building supplies and a computer as well as transportation of supplies and equipment.
Thanks to your support, Culebra is well on it's way to recovery.
